OXA Annual Golf Tournament
Location: Anderson Links Golf & Country Club
Annual Golf Tournament 2016
On Thursday, August 25, the OXA held their Annual Golf Tournament at Emerald Links Golf & Country Club.
The rain forecast for the day finished up early so everyone was able to enjoy a great event. Participants arrived at the course for the 11:30am registration and then enjoyed a tasty BBQ lunch before heading out on the course for a 1:00pm shotgun start.
Forty-eight golfers came out to take participate in the fun on the course despite the heat and humidity. This year’s event had participants trying to snag the seemingly elusive hole-in-one at not only one, but two holes on the challenging course.
After golf, everyone returned to the clubhouse for appetizers, networking, a delicious chicken and rib dinner and lots of prizes.
This year’s event was another overwhelming success thanks to our sponsors, prize donors and participants.
We hope to see you out next year!
Onsite Event - DiVino Wine Studio
Last night approximately 45 OXA members and their guests attended an onsite event at DiVino Wine Studio located at 225 Preston St.
Everyone in attendance was treated to an entertaining evening of wine, food and scotch tasting that was both fun and informative. The evening provided participants a sample of the services that DiVino has available in addition to their wonderful restaurant facilities.
President's Summer Social 2016
Last week was the OXA’s Annual President’s Summer Social. This year’s event was hosted by President Vaughn McKinney and his wife Barb at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Members and their guests enjoyed a wonderful buffet dinner in the upstairs dining room while taking part in some trackside betting. After dinner several people made their way out to the casino to try their luck at the machines. Hopefully some of them walked away a little bit richer. All in all, the event was a huge success and everyone had a fantastic time.
Thank you Vaughn for a great idea!
Celebrating 80 Years of OXA - April 23, 2016
On Saturday, April 23, 2016 just over 120 people attended the OXA’s historical 80th Anniversary celebrations. The event was held at NeXT Restaurant and featured fabulous food, drink, Presidents of past and present, guest speakers, dancing, a band, costumes and don’t forget BALLOONS!
The evening started with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while listening to musical treasures from the 1930s and then Thom Bourne kicked off the formal portion of the evening with a warm welcome which was followed by a performance from the Board of Directors and a heart-felt toast by President, Mike Kolberg. During the delicious four course meal, several long standing members provided short presentations about their company’s history and their association with the Ottawa Executives’ Association.
The fun continued after dinner with members and their guests cutting loose to the sounds of Johnny Vegas and his band. For those who stuck around there may have even been a number or two from our very own Simon Wood. The evening was a huge success and a great time was had by everyone in attendance.
Brier Event was a Milestone - March 10, 2016
The OXA members were treated to an excellent lunch at the new Milestones restaurant next to TD Place. The main event was the afternoon draw at the Brier. First a short stop at the Brier Patch for a pint and then a short walk to the arena to watch the Tim Horton’s Brier, one of the top curling events in Canada, and maybe the world.
The Northern Ontario Team looked immensely strong and unbeatable, with some very impressive take-outs and draws. The Nfld Team was also on fire that day. Unfortunately, both teams did not have the same mojo come the play-off rounds.
The Power Rangers had their mojo going as you can see them in the photo with Louise McManus of Louise’s Belgian Chocolates. She will be using their power to prepare amazing chocolate baskets for Easter.
Best Craft Talk Life Story
At the June 25th Craft Talk Roly Armitage shared some his experiences from World War II. He was there at Normandy with the Royal Canadian Artillery Regiment to support the troops as they moved forward and freed Europe. Some stories were sad, some were frightful, and some were lighthearted. In particular, we all enjoyed the story he tells of first meeting Frederick Heineken after the war, as a young lad Freddy was looking to trade beer for gasoline. You will have to read his book to see how the story ends.
His life story is far from over, Roly serves as an active member of the OXA representing Pinecrest Remembrances Services and has the highest attendance record of all OXA members. Rock on Roly.
In the photo Roly is seen receiving an award prepared by the Ottawa Citizen and presented to him by new OXA President Michael Kolberg, of Royal Moving and Storage.
House of Commons Lunch
It was a real treat to have lunch with the Speaker of the House, Mr. Andrew Sheer. Mr. Scheer was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004 as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Regina-Qu’Appelle. He was re-elected in 2006, 2008 and 2011.
Mr. Scheer was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He studied history and politics at the University of Ottawa and the University of Regina, where he received a Bachelor of Arts. The tour of the House of Commons Library was very impressive. Security was very strict, as to be expected these days.
Annual Bowling Event
This 2nd annual event was another great success with 40 members and guests on hand take part in the fun. Participants had a great time trying to best one another during bowling in order to win the coveted highest score trophies.
The evening continued with dinner and opportunities to network and socialize. Congratulations to our winners and Thank you to all those who participated in this year’s event. See you next year!
Brighten up your Day with Beaudry Flowers
An intimate event in the middle of a winter storm and super sub-freezing temperatures was hosted by Guy Gamache of Beaudry Flowers. Many OXA members braved the elements to be there. It was worth it as we were treated to a fantastic Lebanese meal and a delicious red wine pairing.
The door prize of a beautiful bouquet of flowers was won by Craig Mackay of Nortak Software. Beaudry Flowers can deliver the same beautiful type of floral arrangements anywhere in Canada. So remember Beaudry Flowers for Valentine’s Day, for Mother’s Day, a loved one’s Birthday or just a great way to bring warmth and cheer into the home or office.
